20 Years ago, two childhood friends who had gone their separate ways decided to meet for coffee. Mike was in the world of printing and copy machines, and Chris was in the restaurant business.
The days of the three-martini lunches and expense accounts were becoming a thing of the past; copy machines and printers were becoming more affordable so that everyone could own one. They both saw the writing was on the wall, and wasn't just graffiti.
As they were far from being your typical, twenty-somethings looking to come up with the next big thing. Who could eat cold pizza and sleep on the floor until lightning struck? Mike had a family, and Chris had a lifestyle to support!
So they decided to stay put but to keep their eyes open for a possible opportunity, something they can do together. As luck would have it, Mike, "The Business Man" was asked by one of his biggest clients if, along with printing, also made signs.
After giving it some profound thought, Mike responded after a second or two:
" Sure, I make signs..."What kind of signs do you need?
The First steps...
Fast forward a year or so later, Mike's makes it his mission to enlist Chris, "the restaurateur and dreamer," who has since gotten a family to join him in the New York City interior signage business.
Unlike today, architects wanted nothing to do with signage. Before long, Mike's business knowledge and hustle, and Chris's creative genes... these two childhood friends had single handedly taken the land of dull, prison-like black and white 6"x6" gravoply and ugly contrasting colors like beige with sea green text photopolymer with no braille, and turned the industry on its ear!
THE TWO-PERSON SALES TEAM WAS HITTING THE NEW YORK STREETS, GOING OUT AND GETTING THE JOBS-NOT SITTING IN AN OFFICE, NOT WAITING FOR THE PHONE TO RING.
After years of buying signs from a good number of sign manufacturers both local and throughout the country, the frustration built to an acceptable level with mistakes, longer and longer turnaround times, slow custom service responses, and what seemed to prices increasing daily - we decided it was time to open shop.
